Ross Armstrong Centre
COVID-19 Update :
Ross Armstrong Centre is once again open for limited face to face programming. All activities will be updated through phone calls to registered clients. We are happy to follow Public health recommendations and we will continue to support our clients in the safest ways we can. Please note that our support and outreach team are still working full time and can be reached by phoning 780-488-5742 ext 101 or 102 or by sending an e-mail to Sandra.J@hivedmonton.com or Angela.A@hivedmonton.com
Our Ross Centre is a safe, caring place for HIV positive individuals to meet, have a cup of coffee, and access resources. Our meal services are currently running at a reduced capacity.
Ross Armstrong Week, held Monday-Friday in the middle of each month, provides access to grocery cards, health supplies (multi-vitamins and liquid meal replacement) and hygiene products (razors, shampoo, etc.).
Who was Ross Armstrong?
In 1984 Ross Armstrong was diagnosed with AIDS. Shortly after his diagnosis he became a part of HIV Edmonton’s (previously the AIDS Network of Edmonton) team, and emerged as the public face of AIDS in Edmonton. Ross died on July 1, 1986, two years after his diagnosis.
The challenges and suffering Ross endured and the courage he displayed during those first years of the local epidemic led HIV Edmonton to name the hub of our agency where peer support, housing issues, treatment access and always… a hot cup of coffee are available– The Ross Armstrong Centre.
Covid-19 Update:
Currently running at a lower capacity for our drop in, meal and support programming in the building.
Support and Outreach available 10am-4pm Mon-Thurs and 10-12pm Friday.
During Ross Armstrong Week, the week that the 15th of the month falls in, we provide access to grocery cards, health supplies (multi-vitamins and liquid meal replacements) and hygiene products such as; razors, shampoo and feminine hygiene items.
We have a great cooking class that is offered twice a month where clients can learn new recipes, socialize and learn how to make easy, fun and healthy meals together.
Other program activities are planned throughout the year and are driven by client need and interests. Some programs we have hosted are; sharing circles, art programs, and yoga classes. We have also taken trips to participate in sweat lodges, natural medicine gathering, picnics and festivals.
